The Garden

Guest post by Wade Landrum

Imagine. Crystal clear color with the sheen of every shade you know and the ones you don’t know. Darkness, a dim bluish purple haze misting through the twilight like atmosphere of the heavens. A voice commanding light, a low and rumbling sound issued forth from the voice of Eternity. The resounding explosion of the One who knows what He is creating and clearly sees through the beginning to the everlasting end. Joy. Pure joy igniting from the corners of His universe and sending shafts of mercy and grace though the depths of time. Dancing, spinning, encircling, encompassing and permeating as His eyes consider beyond time and look into the great expanse and see the Day when fountains of Life flow freely into the streets of the earth, filled with passion and acceptance of a beautifully arrayed Bride whose shining hope filled eyes glisten with the knowledge that He has come and sought her out and rescued Her from despair.

Bible Study - The Numbers PDF Print E-mail

NumbersMany of you, dear readers, are interested in Bible studies and devotionals. A Bible study on numbers and their spiritual significance can carry throughout other studies you will do in your life. Check out BibleStudy.org. You can find a thorough overview on the meaning of numbers. Most of you know that 1 means unity. But did you know that 12 means governmental perfection? It is used throughout both the Old and New Testaments. The twelve tribes of Israel, the twelve apostles, etc.

The number 8 is significant in its referral to resurrection or regeneration. From BibleStudy.org:

Resurrection is the great truth which is signified. Christ rose from the dead on "the first day of the week," that was of necessity the eighth day. And it is remarkable that the Bible contains the record of

Eight individual Resurrections
(other than the Lord and the saints):

3 in the Old Testament
3 in the Gospels
2 in Acts 9 and 20

For Small Group Leaders

SmallGroupHelp.com - I recently found this site packed full of great advice for small group leaders. This is the beginning of on of Frank Chiapperino's blog posts...

Leadership Basics In Small Groups

Bill Search, author of Simple Small Groups, recently posted how caring for others is an essential component of leadership in small groups:

What is the most basic expectation of leading a small group? Some would say it is providing a place for the group to meet. Others would say it has more to do with crafting a riveting lesson with careful attention to interpreting and applying ancient biblical texts. Still others imagine the key component of leading a groupis providing for each and every need that members in the group may have. No wonder we have a leader crisis on our hands!

First Women of Finance

Muriel Seibert give great advice to women who own businesses.

Ms. Siebert, who grew up in Cleveland and watched her uncle lose a real estate empire and regain it from revenues generated out of the country’s most successful gas station, said she has learned through fluctuations in her own business the difference between “needs” and “wants,” and to largely stick with the former.

“I have friends who go through tough times and still buy a $2,000 dress,” she said, remembering years when she put off a new car purchase or eschewed the corner office for cheaper work space to build up her business that now includes seven branches. "I didn’t let pride get in my way."

She also says, "Women entrepreneurs can position themselves by taking stock of their talents, experience and knowledge and then looking for “voids” in available products or services. Then, she said, it’s up to you."

Where to Look for Freelance Writing Jobs

Many of you who read our blog and website are writers. If you haven't checked out Freelance Writing Gigs then check it out now. They posted an article on ways to find freelance writing jobs. Here is an excerpt...

Where to Look?

In short, everywhere.

Think you’d make a great newspaper columnist? Ask. I got my job as a regular newspaper columnist for a local city newspaper by asking. I saw a new “community” newspaper was about to launch so I sent the editor samples of my writing and a pitch for my column. The pay isn’t huge for most newspaper columns, but if you can get syndicated it can be a lucrative form of income.

Is there a blog or website you would love to write for but they never put out calls for writers? Ask. Just because they don’t place ads online doesn’t mean they don’t hire freelance writers. If you’re a good fit, they might just consider your request. Send them a note letting them know how much you enjoy their site and that you would like to write for them. Include a few good samples of your work. You never know.

Have you been on a missions trip?

Have you been on a missions trip? If you have, you probably came home with renewed faith and a deeply felt compassion for people who don't know God. You probably came back full of stories to tell about God's love and grace, just like Sharon did in her story below.

Will you take a moment to pray for Rick and Sharon Stangler? They are missionaries and are passionate to make God known throughout the world. This is what happened to Sharon when she was teaching in the Marshall Islands:

Something funny happened as Sharon began to teach her first message when she was teaching at a women's conference. The pastor’s wife there was the translator and she said, “I cannot hear you out of my right ear.”

Sharon thought “Lord, she needs to hear.” Sharon stopped teaching, prayed and then moved to her left side. After the service, the pastor’s wife said, “Say something in my right ear." And then with a smile on her face she said “I can hear now, I can hear now!” Give God a high praise!

Visit their website
and pray for the Stanglers as they share the Gospel around the world.
